Meet Buttercup! This whimsical carved gourd decoration is made with a real dried gourd. It's surprising to know that this happy pumpkin gourd began as a seedling on a farm! I use dried gourds that come from farms in the United States. I cut the tops off, clean out the middle and carve the faces just as you would a fall Halloween jack-o-lantern. Translucent paints and waxing show off the gorgeous shell of the gourd which feels wonderfully smooth to the touch. I like to dress my whimsical gourds in style, so I channel my inner Madd Hatter and create beautiful handmade hats to help showcase their personality.
Buttercup's hat is made from upcycled jeans, burlap, and a vintage-looking striped fabric. The brim of Buttercup's hat has wire built-in, so you can have fun adjusting the wave of the brim to look just right in your home. Each gourd character is truly unique, with its own personality. I leave the inside unpainted because I think it's important to not forget the true nature of this gourd is in fact a real vegetable!
Light them up! There's nothing better than having the lights pop on around the house as the sun is setting outside. I personally don't enjoy walking around my house turning lights on and off table decorations. So this gourd character comes with her own battery-operated tea light candle that has a timer! Just turn the switch on around dusk, then it stays on for about six hours, and turns off on its own! You don't have to touch it again until the battery runs out and needs to be replaced.
